Upstairs room available in Hill East home

Hi everyone,

We are looking for a roommate to fill an opening in our house by Aug. 1. The rent is $767 plus utilities. There are two women living in the house and the upstairs space is open to a roommate who shares our values or Christian faith. While we don’t spend every waking moment together, we do like to hang out as roommates and generally care about one another’s lives.

More details on the house:

The block: Bay Street is a beautiful little street with lovely neighbors. We are basically across the street from the Stadium Armory metro, and a 15-20 min walk from Eastern Market and H St.

The house: We all share the middle floor (living room, dining room, and kitchen). As an extra bonus, there is a small guest room that is available to any housemate’s guests at any time. This room also frequently hosts children (more on that below). We also have an amazing back porch and front porch that have seen many late night talks and whiskey drinks. We also have a backyard and front plant area for those who like to garden. There is a laundry room in the basement, so other roommates do walk through the basement room, but we work hard to be respectful of that space.

The room: The room is a pretty good size, gets great sunlight two windows and has a walk-in closet. It currently holds a large dresser, double bed, multiple bookcases and a desk. The upstairs bathroom is shared with one other person.

The roommates: Two women currently live in the house -- one upstairs and one in the basement. One of them has lived here for almost 5 years, and the other for almost 2. We both attend a local church, one of us is a journalist and the other works at a local nonprofit. We’re fairly normal people and enjoy hanging out playing games, drinking delicious beverages, getting in over our heads on DIY projects, judging each other’s TV shows, grabbing toilet paper for one another, and leaving ridiculous notes on the kitchen chalkboard.

The home: See what I did there? As roommates, we like to care about one another’s lives and have a general sense of community. We also really value hospitality in the house, and this generally is seen in two different ways. 1) We all have people over frequently. We ask each other and coordinate, but guests and friends are always welcome. 2) We currently serve as a Host Home in Safe Families, a foster care prevention program. Most frequently, there will be a 2-year-old and the cuddliest 1 and a half-year-old on the weekends sometimes. But we have hosted other children. We also have kids/teens from church over to hang out sometimes. While the two little girls will always be part of the home’s community, it would be up to us (current two + new roommate- you??) if we continue hosting or if the new roommate is involved. All this to say, we see the house as a gift in our own lives and want to use that gift to serve our community.

If you’re interested, and you totally should be, email a little bit about yourself to Chelsea at chelseaelizabethg@gmail.com. Also feel free to ask any questions. We understand that the kid part is a little different, but they keep things fun. Thanks for considering!
