CHILDREN’S MINISTRY DIRECTOR 
Job Description


Summary: Provide relational, spiritual, and logistical leadership to Grace Meridian Hill’s children’s ministry. 
Job Type: Full time, 30 hours/week 

General 
¥ Create a grace filled, enthusiastic learning environment 
¥ Serve as a welcoming presence for regular and new parents and their children 
¥ Work with Assistant Pastor to form practical strategies based on Grace Meridian Hill’s philosophy of ministry 

Administration & Communication 
¥ Schedule Sunday volunteers each quarter 
¥ Print/distribute lessons, notes, plans to adult leaders/teachers as needed 
¥ Communicate with parents weekly regarding lesson/activities, home follow up, songs, etc. 
¥ Serve as communication “hub” between Pastor, Ministry Administrator, Parents, and Members 
¥ Maintain and re order basic teacher/lesson related supplies; maintain class rosters 
¥ Review and implement child protection policies/practices 

Supervision & Training 
¥ Provide oversight of all class teachers/assistants 
¥ Select and implement curriculum, under supervision of Assistant Pastor, with input from Parent 
Committee/Teachers 
¥ Create systems for traffic/flow, ensuring that ministry space is safe, organized, effective; direct support staff and volunteers in setting up of rooms 
¥ Prepare/teach lesson as a substitute when needed 
¥ Lead adult training/equipping meetings; routinely encourage teachers and members/volunteers 
¥ Hire and manage paid caregivers 

Parents/Family Liaison 
¥ Develop supportive, collaborative relationships with parents of children 
¥ Coordinate with Parent Committee (and Assistant Pastor, as needed) when parent support, child development, and discipline needs arise 
¥ Support integration of families and baptism of children (scheduling, gifts, certificates, etc.). 

Special Events 
¥ Plan special worship opportunities for children in main service 
¥ Plan and implement childcare/activities for special events (e.g., Fall Retreat, Parent Meetings, etc.) and family encouraged ministries (e.g., Moms Group, Engine Room prayer, etc.) * As a member of the Grace Meridian Hill staff team, the Children’s Ministry Director is required to participate in all weekly Staff Meetings (Tuesdays, 1:30pm 3:00pm). Apart from these requirements, along with participation in Sunday worship service, the Children’s Ministry Director is free to work at various times and in various locations. 

Qualifications 
¥ Prior experience with local church children’s ministries 
¥ Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills with adults and children; personable demeanor 
and relational style 
¥ Strong administrative skills; organized; problem solver 
¥ Flexible, able to adapt quickly within a growing (i.e., changing) church environment 
¥ Embraces, and able to articular, Grace Meridian Hill’s vision, especially as it relates to children 
¥ Prior experience working with youth in an urban community strongly preferred 
¥ Background check required; experience in infant/child CPR certification preferred Supervisor: Pastor Remargo Yancie Hours: 30 hours/week
