Job Opening - Directors of Conferences & Events

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities seeks a Conferences & Events Director responsible for overseeing 25 – 30 conferences and events each year for its membership. The Director of Conferences & Events works with commissions and other key stakeholders to plan and execute professional development opportunities and meetings that support Christian higher education. This position requires travel.

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of more than 180 Christian institutions around the world. With campuses across the globe, including more than 150 in the U.S. and Canada and nearly 30 more from an additional 18 countries, CCCU institutions are accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities whose missions are Christ-centered and rooted in the historic Christian faith. Most also have curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. The CCCU’s mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help our institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth (www.cccu.org).

Core Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the budget and planning process for all CCCU conferences and events
  • Work with CCCU senior staff and volunteer leaders on logistics and programming for all peer-related events
  • Initiate the bidding process for venue selection and negotiate final venue contracts in consultation with the Chief Business Officer
  • Manage the vendor contracts, obtaining signature approvals and archiving counter-signed contracts
  • Manage speaker coordination and contracts; serve as the point of contact for speakers and presenters for all events, including programming, travel and audio-visual assistance
  • Coordinate the set-up, maintenance and onsite process for all conference, workshop and institute registrations
  • Coordinate with the communications team for all marketing and communications materials for conference events
  • Produce CCCU master conference & events calendar
  • Work within our institutional database, pulling defined reports on conferences and events for senior leadership
  • Coordinate with the IT team so records are complete in data storage system
  • Manage part-time sponsorship coordinator in the work of developing and maintaining relationships for conference sponsorships and exhibitors
  • Manage part-time conference and events coordinator
  • Track conference/event participation from year to year
  • Solicit conference feedback by creating and collecting post-conference surveys and subsequent reports
  • Work with the website manager and database manager to ensure the accuracy of all content related to the back-end databases and for the conference part of the CCCU.org website
  • Travel to conferences to manage and oversee logistics
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Persons applying for the position should:
  • Have a strong appreciation for the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU and its BestSemester programs
  • Have exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Affirm the Nicene Creed
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of five years of related work experience in conference management
  • Experience managing and/or directing others
  • Have financial and budget acumen
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of Christian institutions of higher education
  • Be a strong team-player with excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Be able to travel and work on the road
  • Have superior organizational, planning, interpersonal, people management and time management skills
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines and conflicting priorities; and demonstrate good judgment and handle confidential information
  • Have excellent negotiating skills and have experience with reviewing contracts
  • Be detail-orientated, as well as flexible.
  • Have a proven track-record in customer service/client relationship, including the ability to build strategic partnerships to enhance the mission of the organization
  • Possess computer skills including: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database and web skills
