Website & IT Specialist

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) seeks a hardworking, detail-oriented and savvy Website & IT Specialist who is excited to support the work of a mission-driven organization, advancing the cause of Christian higher education. The Website & IT Specialist is responsible for the management, development, and strategy of the CCCU and BestSemester websites and also provides front-line help desk support for the organization. This position reports to the Director of Communications & Public Affairs and the Vice President for Finance & Administration and works closely with the BestSemester, communications, and conferences & events teams. A successful candidate will bring a creative approach and cultivate a seamless user experience for the CCCU and BestSemester websites, in addition to providing excellent internal customer service and technological support for the organization.

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of more than 180 Christian institutions around the world. With campuses across the globe, including more than 150 in the U.S. and Canada and nearly 30 more from an additional 18 countries, CCCU institutions are accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities whose missions are Christ-centered and rooted in the historic Christian faith. Most also have curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. The CCCU’s mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help our institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.

Core Responsibilities:

Website Management (70%: CCCU.org and BestSemester.com)

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the CCCU (WordPress) and BestSemester (Drupal) websites.
  • Work closely with members of the communications and BestSemester teams on website projects of various scales, including daily updates/refreshing of content and design of new pages & templates.
  • Serve as liaison and primary contact for outside vendors and contractors, including third-party website developers. Work with vendors to create and implement new functionality as needed to accommodate organizational needs.
  • Implement industry-standard maintenance and updates to ensure website infrastructure is up-to-date and secure.
  • Troubleshoot website and integrated application issues and work towards their quick resolution.
  • Utilize web analytics and create and implement plans to drive conversions, improve visitor interactions, and optimize performance of CCCU web properties and evaluate ROI for all initiatives.
  • Serve as key driver in the optimization of search engine performance.
    • Monitor search engine rankings and referrals
    • Monitor site traffic and user behavior
  • Oversee technical aspects of CCCU Career Center and participate in revenue-growth strategy.
  • Handle placement of paid advertising on CCCU website—assist with identifying potential advertisers and developing and implementing an overall strategy and pricing plan. 
  • Lead potential re-design process for BestSemester website.
  • With Database Manager, maintain effective integration of iMIS (the CCCU’s primary AMS) for the CCCU website, Career Center and online communities. Also with Database Manager, manage and maintain CCCU networking groups.

Technology Support (30%)

  • Provide front-line help desk functionality for CCCU, including on-demand and routine IT help desk support, hardware maintenance, and basic software training for staff (including the creation and maintenance of appropriate documentation).
  • Resolve basic hardware and software problems for end users and work with third party vendors on more complex issues.
  • Manage basic network administration by creating and maintaining user and resource network accounts with appropriate security settings.
  • Provide orientation for new staff and in-house student programs.
  • Provide basic oversight of wired and wireless network infrastructure – including printers/scanners, switches, wireless access points, and network security appliances.
  • Configure and test new work-stations (PC/Mac) and peripherals for staff and students, including printers, smartphones, external monitors etc.
  • Provide remote user support of off-site staff.
  • Develop a regular maintenance cycle for existing computers.
  • Maintain inventory of hardware, software and other technology assets.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Persons applying for the position should:

  • Have a strong appreciation for the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU and believe in the Nicene Creed
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree and possess 2-5 years of experience in website management
  • Possess a strong understanding of the WordPress framework
  • Have experience with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Adwords, Advanced Custom Fields and SiteOrgin plugins
  • Have a basic understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery
  • Have a strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
  • Possess experience mocking up new pages and/or WordPress templates based on design comps or wireframes (PSD to HTML)
  • Have a basic understanding of Twig template engine for PHP
  • Be comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
  • Be able to work on-site in the CCCU’s Washington, DC offices
  • Have excellent communication skills and function well as a member of a dynamic team
  • Be able to use sound judgment and work well under pressure
  • Be detail-oriented, highly organized, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Have a desire to serve others gracefully and selflessly
